Frequently Asked Questions

It is so normal to have some questions or feel a bit unsure before booking in to see a psychologist! If you cannot find your answer here, please email us at support@fertilemindspsychology.com.au and we would be happy to help.

  • We understand that talking to a therapist for the first time can be uncomfortable. Your first session typically begins with Ash talking through important things like your referral, confidentiality and privacy information that you will have received prior to your appointment. There is no set structure to an initial session, but you can expect to talk a bit about what’s brought you to therapy, your mental health journey so far, and what you want to get out of your sessions.

  • This is very much up to you! Together with Ashlea, you will develop a treatment plan and timeline that aligns with your unique needs, goals and therapy model. Ash does tend to work in a ‘longer term’ relational approach, however, for many people, a shorter course of therapy is just as helpful!

  • Better Access to Mental Health (BAMH) Care Plan – The current Medicare rebates for clinical psychology are $137.05 for 10 sessions per calendar year. Under the BAMH you will need to see your GP for the initial referral and after 6 sessions. At this appointment, your GP may assess whether you would be eligible for a further 4 sessions.

Eating Disorder Treatment Plan - For people diagnosed with an eligible eating disorder, up to 40 sessions per calendar year are available. Under an EDTP, you will need to see your GP for the initial referral and after the 10th, 20th, and 30th session. A psychiatrist review is required before 20 sessions in order to continue to receive a Medicare rebate beyond session 20.

Private Health – Please consult your fund for information regarding your health fund rebates. A GP referral is sometimes required for accessing therapy under private health.

  • The standard fee is $260 per 50min session. If you have an eligible referral and consent, we can process your Medicare claim immediately after your session. You should receive the rebate within 24 hours.

Report writing is charged pro-rata to this.

  • In order to make your experience as seamless as possible, we securely store your card information in an encrypted format in our client management system. Once you've provided your card details, they are safely stored and ‘tokenised’, ensuring they remain inaccessible to anyone at the practice. We utilize Braintree Paypal, one of the largest online payment platforms globally, known for its strict data security measures.

Following your session, payment will be processed automatically, and you'll receive a receipt via email. Please remember that payment must be made at the time of consultation, so make sure sufficient funds are available in your account.

  • A minimum of two business days' notice is required for cancelling an appointment.

To ensure that we can offer appointments to those on our waitlist in a timely manner, we have the following cancellation policy.

    • Appointments cancelled with 24-48 hours’ notice will incur 50% of the consultation fee.

    • Appointments cancelled with 0-24 hours’ notice will incur 100% of the consultation fee.

This fee cannot be claimed from Medicare or private health funds.

You will receive a reminder text message that includes the date and time of your session to help you keep track of appointments. Please check these texts carefully and contact reception as soon as possible to reschedule appointments to avoid the inconvenience of a cancellation fee.
