Perinatal Counselling
Navigating the Journey to Parenthood
While magical for many, the journey and transition to parenthood can be harder than expected.
Perinatal Non-Directive Counselling is supportive, non-judgmental, confidential and unbiased. Medicare has funded a specific scheme where eligible clients can receive up to three 30min+ support sessions relating to pregnancy and post-partum.
The purpose of these sessions is not for extensive treatment, but to explore the current concerns, to receive support through ‘talk therapy’ and to provide information about the options and services relevant to these concerns (this may include the suggestion for ongoing psychological therapy). The sessions can be particularly useful for those unsure whether therapy is right for them and their concerns/needs.
Eligibility
Anyone with a current or recent pregnancy (within the last twelve months) who has concerns such as decisions about the future, adjustment following pregnancy or general issues relating to the pregnancy.
A signed and dated referral letter from your GP/medical is needed to access these sessions.
Motherhood not only transforms us; it also forces us to relinquish our illusions about who we were all along.
